GCVA Juniors Indoor Club Volleyball on the other coast

(background Picture) #10 Riley Salmon – Team USA -  League City TX  Former GCVA member and beach player

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are a cost efficient, competitive volleyball club in the heart of Clear Lake City.

Where will be practicing this upcoming season? – We will be using some of the CCISD gyms along Clear Lake Rec Center.  The practice schedule/day’s times will be announced after all teams are made.

Clear Lake Rec Center. (CLRC) Is at 16511 Diana Lane (corner of Diana and Ramada) in Clear Lake City.  Take I45 to Bay Area Blvd East.  Turn left on Diana. The rec. center is on the right past the courthouse. The CLC rec center is very nice with locker rooms, indoor pool etc. and two new “sport court” volleyball courts.

Brookside Intermediate School. (BIS)  Is at 3535 S. Parkwood Drive
Friendswood, TX 77546.  (South Parkwood Drive is actually 528 (NASA Road one turns to 528 on the west side of I45.  The city of Friendswood calls 528 Parkwood Dr.) So Brookside is off 528 about 200 yards past Bay Area Blvd.

Clear Lake Intermediate School (CLIS): 15545 El Camino Real. On the corner of El Camino Real and El Dorado.  The school is app.  1 mile off freeway on El Dorado on the left.  Gym parking is on the East side of the school

CLEAR VIEW (CV) (Old Webster Int School):   400 S. Walnut, Webster TX.  From I45 exit NASA Rd 1 going toward space center.  School is app. 1 mile off freeway on the right.  High school is the school on the right coming up walnut.

DRILLS:  We will work on different things throughout, please see schedule.  FREE and open to all GCVA players.

Give five tips for the Indoor Player that helped you be the most successful on hard court.

Hard work.  If you are having trouble with a particular skill, keep doing it after practice until you find it.  Demand that of yourself.

Be aggressive.  Being tentative will teach you bad habits that you'll never end up using in matches.  It will only hurt your game.

Once you enter the gym, be focused.  If you are peppering at 50% because you're thinking about something that happened earlier (or just not focusing), you are teaching yourself bad habits that will show up on the court.  Every touch of the ball should be the best you can.

Once you leave the gym, unless you're at a volleyball meeting, leave it behind.  Don't carry things around thinking about a bad play that happened.  Let it go and come back the next day with a fresh out look.  You cannot change what happened anyway, just learn from it.

Have fun.  If you are not enjoying yourself on some level, why are you doing it?

Coach Thang’s - TIP OF THE MONTH

Hard work.  If you are having trouble with a particular skill, keep doing it after practice until you find it.  Demand that of yourself.
